The Village Co., a registered charity, empowers vulnerable mothers and families by providing essential support and care during pregnancy, birth, and early parenting. We foster community connection and advocate for their well-being through practical resources, compassionate programs, and partnerships that drive positive social impact.

The unfortunate reality for many struggling families is that vital supplies, essential in the early days of parenthood, are not readily accessible. All too often mums leave hospital completely unprepared and overwhelmed, with no ability to provide even basic items like nappies, wipes or blankets for their tiny baby.

The Village Co. looks to ease this burden through generous donations, providing new parents with practical items for both mum and bubs, with the hope that this gift will give them the ability to address the basic needs of their precious newborn and themselves.

Established in 2018 and founded by Steph Malan (Midwife) and Nicole Doak, The Village Co. is a not-for-profit organisation supporting South Australian mothers, from pregnancy through to 12 months post-birth, who are experiencing vulnerability primarily due to domestic and family violence, homelessness and poverty.

The Village Co. was established in response to Steph Malan’s heartbreak over seeing highly vulnerable mothers coming into hospital without basic necessities for themselves and their babies.  Steph spent considerable time with these women in her role as a midwife and realised there were no programs specifically tailored to support and connect this cohort of mothers.

The Village Co. supports between over 1500 vulnerable South Australian mothers per year. These mothers include Indigenous women and mothers / mothers-to-be who are experiencing a range of issues, including domestic and family violence, homelessness, mental health issues, drug addiction, refugees and mothers undergoing significant financial stress.
