Why

village co 3

The Village Co. was born in 2018 from a deep conviction and desire that Co-Founder Steph possessed.

After over ten years as a Registered Midwife, Steph continued to feel heartbroken as women regularly attended hospital to give birth completely unprepared. Many women did not have the basic daily essentials needed to care for themselves and their new babies.  This meant, no pads, no nappies, no soap, no wipes.

Steph felt compelled to do something about this, to find a way to give these women a generous gift that will ultimately lead to improving their self-confidence and self-worth.

Steph is a mum herself. After having children she learnt very quickly that it takes a village to raise a child. She has a wonderful support network, making her even more aware of the sad fact that many women enter into this journey of motherhood without that support, let alone the daily practical essentials required.

Co-founder Nicole met Steph at school and they quickly realised that their friendship was more than a brief hello at school drop off. They were able to provide care and support to each other as they started their “school mums” journey.

This made them think… how do mothers cope with minimal to no support?

Nicole shared Steph’s desire to make a difference in the lives of women in need. Nicole brings a wealth of knowledge from her years of corporate work and is driven to seeing like-minded mothers and women join together to make a difference in our community.

Together Steph and Nicole have jumped head first into the world of not-for-profit management, determined to provide care and generosity to South Australian mothers and mothers-to-be.
