Care Packs –

A bag that says you are not alone

For many women, the journey into motherhood begins not with celebration, but with worry. Worry about how they’ll clothe their baby, care for themselves, or simply get through the first week. Our Care Packs exist for those women.

Each pack is thoughtfully assembled and beautifully presented. These bags don’t look or feel like charity. They are filled with brand-new, quality essentials, wrapped with care, and gifted through the midwives, social workers and services who know these mothers best. A Care Pack meets a practical need, but more than that, it tells a mother that her community sees her, values her, and is walking beside her.

We currently offer two kinds of Care Packs, each designed for a very different moment in a mother’s story.

Welcome Babe Bag

For new mothers welcoming their baby.

The Welcome Babe Bag was created in response to what our midwives were seeing every day: women arriving at hospital to give birth without the basics they and their newborns needed.

Each bag is gifted to eligible vulnerable mothers in public hospitals across Adelaide and contains a curated selection of essentials, including:

  • Newborn nappies, wipes and nappy cream
  • Newborn clothing, hats, socks and a wrap
  • Breast pads and maternity pads
  • Toiletries for mum, including shampoo, conditioner, body wash and deodorant
  • Small comforts chosen to help a new mum feel cared for, not just supplied

It’s a practical start, and a warm welcome into motherhood for women who may have very little else.

Self-Care Bag

For mothers leaving hospital with empty arms.

Not every mother leaves hospital with her baby. The Self-Care Bag is for women experiencing the heartbreak of miscarriage, stillbirth, or the removal of their baby into care.

These bags hold the same dignity and tenderness as our Welcome Babe Bags, but their contents are gentle and mother-focused. Inside are comfort items, self-care essentials, and small reminders that her grief is seen and her wellbeing matters. There are no baby items inside.

For a woman walking through one of life’s hardest moments, a Self-Care Bag offers something simple but profound: the knowledge that she has not been forgotten.

Who we support

Our Care Packs are gifted to women in the perinatal period who are facing significant hardship. Working from our extensive experience caring for women at this time, we’ve developed careful criteria to reach those who need support most. The women we support are often experiencing circumstances such as family and domestic violence, homelessness, financial hardship, isolation, mental health challenges, or the particular pressures faced by teenage mothers, refugees, and Aboriginal women facing adversity.

Care Packs are distributed through trusted hospitals and services across South Australia who care for vulnerable mothers and families.
